Known as one of Africa’s largest and most untouched wilderness areas, the park covers more than 30,000 square kilometers of pristine landscapes filled with extraordinary wildlife and diverse ecosystems.

Originally established as the Selous Game Reserve and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982, this remarkable destination is celebrated for its rich biodiversity, unspoiled nature, and authentic safari experience. The reserve was named after the legendary explorer and conservationist Frederick Selous, who died in the area during World War I.

The park is dominated by the mighty Rufiji River, the largest river system in East Africa, creating a unique environment that supports an incredible variety of wildlife. Visitors can enjoy thrilling safari game drives, scenic boat safaris, and guided walking safaris while exploring vast plains, woodlands, rivers, and lakes.

Nyerere National Park is home to African bush elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, Masai giraffes, zebras, hippos, Nile crocodiles, and the rare African wild dogs. Bird lovers can also discover a rich variety of birdlife, including fish eagles, kingfishers, and herons.
